Natural Wardrobe Framework

Your clothes should belong to the moment you're in — the season, the temperature, and the situation. Wear the wrong fabric or dress for the wrong occasion and you will always look out of place, no matter how good the individual pieces are.

Your wardrobe should serve your life, not the other way around. If your day to day doesn't demand a suit, don't buy one just to have one. Be intentional about what you actually need and will wear.

It doesn't matter what brand it is, what you paid, or where it was made — if it doesn't fit, it won't look good. Fit is everything. Find a local tailor who can make minor adjustments for you.

People look and feel their best when they are their most natural — suiting is no different. A natural silhouette is always my goal. There are plenty of brands whose house cut works with the body rather than imposing on it — no excess padding, no artificial structure.

Most men unknowingly cut their body in half. A higher rise trouser elongates the leg, cleans the silhouette, and creates a figure that looks intentional. This is the rule of thirds — 2/3 trouser, 1/3 torso.

The fabrics you combine need to speak the same language. Muted with muted, shine with shine — muted and shine generally don't work together.

The eye should travel unbroken from waist to shoe — your socks should match your trousers, not your shoes. This is a general rule; there are exceptions. When in doubt, reach for a navy dress sock over black, unless you're wearing black trousers.

Every outfit has a formality level and every piece needs to belong very close to it. This is most commonly broken with shoes — everything looks great, and then you get to the comfortable shoes.

The English Palette — earth tones, browns, tans, olives, rusts, creams — are the colors of nature, and nature already figured out what goes together. A wardrobe built around them will always look considered, never loud, and everything will work with everything else, for the most part.
